I’m taking the plunge. I’ve decided to participate in my first-ever One Room Challenge.
What’s that, you ask? ORC is a bi-annual event, in which a community of home designers take on the challenge to complete ONE room in their home within two months. Founded in 2011, by a designer who challenged herself to complete one space in her home, this event has taken storm, as an increasing group of homeowners feel the tug to be held accountable to do the very same thing - FINALLY finish a space!
My goodness, I feel this tug in my home.
Why has it taken so long for me to participate? Great question. Glad you asked.
Reason 1: I type these words in the presence of my 4-year-old, who’s asking me questions (for the eighth time) - for help, or a play buddy, some water, a snack, or just mama snuggles. This moment is just a tiny glimpse of my beautifully messy life. And it’s the same reason why projects in my home are always in process.
Reason 2: We’ve been in our sweet home for two years now. The boxes are unpacked, and our belongings have settled. Now, it’s time grow deep, personal roots in this space we call home. One room at a time.
Reason 3: This beloved *sprouting* business of mine, Home Becoming, needs a space of her own. In this season’s ORC, I’ll be establishing HB’s headquarters, so I have a creative space to paint, meet with clients, and house local workshops and classes (not to mention… designing other remaining spaces in our home, too!).
Reason 4: The essence of ORC is to complete a space in front of a public audience. Eek! This makes me nervous, but here’s what’s more important: I need accountability. That’s where you come in! I’ll update here on the blog weekly (I hope!), and share tips, products I use, paint swatches, projects, and more. Stay tuned!
